The speed of the latest version of Prestashop 8.0.0 is impressive
Prestashop announced today the release of the latest updated version of the software 8.0.0.
A key feature of the version is that it supports PHP 8.0 and 8.1.
We had the opportunity to download and test it. Very good news that it was installed very easily, directly in Greek and without problems
You can take a look at the demo installation we created here
As you will notice, the front-office and back-office differ slightly from the previous version 1.7.8 but
It has some very interesting features such as experimental product pages that we will analyze in a future post.
The interest (and the post) for the new version would have ended there, but clicking on the home page of the site surprised us with how quickly it opened. The host for the demos is shared, relatively slow and overloaded with databases and many different wordpress, prestashop etc. installations, so you expect everything to run slowly.
Clicking on the next pages of categories and products, they all opened unexpectedly quickly.
So the next natural step was to measure the speed of the demo on various pages gtmetrix, pingdom, etc. The site loads in about half the time of previous versions.
I think this version of Prestashop came at the right time to solve a major problem of site loading speed (web core vitals).
In the coming days, our modules will be updated to be compatible with version 8.0.0.
